Alexandria, Va., USA – In a study titled “Prevalence of Periodontis in Adults in the United States: 2009 and 2010,” lead author Paul Eke, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, estimates the prevalence, severity and extent of periodontitis in the adult U.S population using data from the 2009 and 2010 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) cycle. The study is published in the Journal of Dental Research, the official publication of the International and American Associations for Dental Research (IADR/AADR).

Alexandria, Va., USA – It has become increasingly imperative for the American Association for Dental Research (AADR) and its members to stress to Capitol Hill the importance of biomedical research funding, given the significant cuts facing the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and other agencies in FY13. AADR has assembled a program that will provide attendees with a brief overview of the funding and political landscape in Washington, DC, as well as an afternoon of meetings with elected officials and congressional staff. More than 65 congressional offices will be visited, representing 17 states.

 

Alexandria, Va., USA – Rena D’Souza was installed as the 41st president of the American Association for Dental Research (AADR) at the conclusion of the Association’s Annual Meeting & Exhibition in Tampa, Florida, USA, March 24, 2012. The meeting was held in conjunction with the Annual Meeting of the Canadian Association for Dental Research.

 

Alexandria, Va., USA – Thursady, March 29, before the House Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, Education Appropriations and a packed audience, the American Association for Dental Research (AADR) President Rena D'Souza (Baylor College of Dentistry - Texas A&M Health Science Center, Dallas), recognizing the importance of oral health, asked Congress to increase support to the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDCR). Her testimony illustrated the advances made as well as the challenges that remain to be addressed in a few critical areas. As examples, she touched on dental caries, oral and pharyngeal cancer, and salivary diagnostics.
